Chlorophyll

The green pigment in plants essential for photosynthesis, measurable from space.

Chlorophyll is the primary photosynthetic pigment in plant leaves, absorbing red and blue light while reflecting green. Its concentration is directly related to plant health and nitrogen availability. Satellite sensors can estimate chlorophyll content using red-edge bands (680-730nm).

Key chlorophyll indicators include the Chlorophyll Red-Edge Index (CRI) and the MERIS Terrestrial Chlorophyll Index (MTCI). Low chlorophyll often indicates nitrogen deficiency, disease, or senescence, making these indices valuable for crop management decisions.

How Messier76 Uses This

Messier76 monitors chlorophyll levels using Sentinel-2 red-edge bands, providing early warnings for nitrogen deficiency.
