Voluntary environmental programs within CAP that provide additional per-hectare payments.
Eco-schemes are a new element of CAP 2023-2027, requiring member states to allocate 25% of their direct payment budget to these voluntary environmental programs. Farmers who participate receive additional per-hectare payments.
Examples include: maintaining biodiversity areas, cover cropping, reduced tillage, precision farming practices, integrated pest management, and agroforestry. Each member state designs their own eco-schemes based on national environmental priorities.
